External improvement and DDA works to the communal areas on 49 blocks of low-rise and high-rise flats
Contract Sum: £960,000
Contract Duration: 36 weeks
Client: Irwell Valley Housing Association
Architects: Arcus Consulting LLP
Quantity Surveyors: Simon Fenton Partnership
On the low-rise cottage flats the existing entrance areas were increased in size with a small brickwork extension. Security was increased as the extensions incorporated new steel entrance doors with a CCTV system linked to the residents’ televisions. New ramps and handrails were also constructed to satisfy DDA requirements. Other works included new entrances to the high-rise flats, repainting of communal areas, window renewals and replacement guttering and RWP. The vast majority of the works were carried out by our own direct labour force.
Even though we were not working within people’s homes, effective customer care was a critical part of the project, especially as many of the cottage flats were occupied by elderly residents.
“I found Manchester & Cheshire totally committed to the principle and ethos of true partnering. The contract they carried out at Haughton Green for Irwell Valley H.A. was completed ahead of time and within budget. They fully understood the need to demonstrate VFM and offered a number of innovative solutions which assisted the whole project team in maximising expenditure to specification. They demonstrated empathy and understanding of our customers' needs and continually strove to improve the quality of their service.“
