It is with deep sadness that we formally mark the six month anniversary of the passing of Charlie Lowe, co-founder of the company and father to David and Ian Lowe. In 1971 Charlie and John Purcell created Manchester and Cheshire Construction which last year celebrated 50 years of business.
Charlie is widely regarded by all who knew him as one of life’s characters, with an unbelievable work ethic and tremendous drive that enabled him and John to build the successful business that MC Construction is today. Dave quips that whilst patience certainly was not his strong point, Charlie always had time for others both professionally and personally, adding that he had charisma by the bucket load and was extremely generous with both his time and his money. The fact that he came from a humble beginning in Salford, starting out as a joiner, enabled him to relate to everyone, no matter where they came from or their working status.
Anyone who has visited the office will not have failed to notice the humorous mural adorning the kitchen wall depicting Charlie with shirt sleeves rolled up, wheeling a barrow full of concrete. This story and the full account of John and Charlie setting up Manchester and Cheshire Construction can be found here in Our History or within our 50-year celebration animation. Charlie is greatly missed and his spirit lives on in the company values.
